The Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, has been abducted by suspected armed bandits following a deadly attack on his residence that left four security operatives dead.

According to reports, heavily armed gunmen stormed the chairman's home during the night, engaging his security detail in a fierce exchange of gunfire before overpowering them.

The attackers reportedly killed two police officers and two local vigilantes assigned to protect the chairman before abducting him and fleeing the scene.

Family Members Also Abducted

Initial reports indicated that members of the chairman's family, including his wife and children, were also taken during the attack. However, subsequent reports said security forces were able to rescue several family members, while efforts to locate and free the chairman continue.

Security Agencies Launch Rescue Operation

Military personnel, police officers and other security agencies have reportedly launched a coordinated operation across Bungudu and surrounding communities in an effort to rescue the abducted chairman and track down the attackers.

Authorities have yet to announce any arrests or establish contact with the kidnappers.

Renewed Concerns Over Insecurity

The latest abduction has renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in Zamfara State, one of Nigeria's hardest-hit states by armed banditry.

Communities across the state have endured repeated attacks, kidnappings and killings despite ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling criminal gangs operating in the region. The kidnapping of a serving local government chairman is expected to intensify calls for stronger security measures.

Residents Await Further Updates

As of the time of publication, neither the kidnappers nor security agencies had released information regarding any ransom demand.

Residents and political leaders have expressed hope that the chairman will be rescued safely as security operations continue.
