A 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate, identified as Nnani Adaobi Marian, has reportedly died after sustaining critical injuries in an airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

According to circulating reports, Marian was seriously injured during an aerial attack on Kharkiv on June 29 and later transferred to Germany for advanced medical treatment.

She had reportedly received initial medical care in Kharkiv before being moved to Germany as doctors continued efforts to save her life. However, she was reported to have died from her injuries despite medical treatment.

A Young Medical Graduate Caught in the War

Marian was reportedly a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, one of the Ukrainian institutions that has historically attracted international students, including students from Nigeria and other African countries.

Her reported death has drawn attention to the continuing risks faced by civilians and foreign nationals living in areas affected by the war.

Reports also claim that a friend identified as Fatima died at the scene of the same attack. However, Talk Ya True has not independently verified all details surrounding the identities and circumstances of the reported casualties.

Kharkiv Continues to Face Attacks

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, has repeatedly come under Russian missile, drone and aerial attacks since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022. Documented attacks over the course of the war have caused civilian deaths, injuries and widespread damage to homes and public infrastructure.

The city’s proximity to the Russian border has made it particularly vulnerable throughout the conflict.

The reported death of the Nigerian graduate is likely to renew concern about Nigerians and other foreign nationals who remain in parts of Ukraine affected by the fighting.

As of publication, further official information from Nigerian authorities regarding the reported death was not readily available.

Talk Ya True will update this story when additional verified information becomes available.
