Over 30 Killed as Gunmen Launch Deadly Midnight Attack on Kaduna Community

At least 30 people have been killed following a deadly overnight attack on Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to residents, heavily armed gunmen stormed the community late Sunday night, opening fire indiscriminately before setting homes ablaze. The attack reportedly claimed the lives of women, children and elderly residents, while several others sustained injuries.

Children Among the Victims

Local sources said eight children were among those killed during the assault. Survivors described scenes of panic as families fled into nearby bushes while attackers moved through the village burning houses and shooting at residents.

At least four injured victims were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Community Left Devastated

Residents said the attackers remained in the community for several hours before fleeing. Many houses were destroyed by fire, forcing surviving families to seek refuge in neighbouring communities.

Community leaders described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks in the area this year and urged security agencies to strengthen their presence in vulnerable rural communities.

Security Concerns Grow

No group had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of publication. However, such attacks in northwestern Nigeria are frequently attributed to heavily armed criminal gangs commonly referred to as bandits, who have carried out repeated raids, kidnappings and killings across several states.

The latest killings have renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting communities in Southern Kaduna, with residents calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further violence.
