Two Nigerians Arrested in Ghana Over Alleged Murder of Fellow Nigerian
Ghanaian police have arrested two Nigerian nationals over the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian in Tamale, in a case that has shocked both countries. Investigators say the suspects were intercepted while allegedly attempting to flee to neighbouring Togo after the victim was found dead in his home. Police say the investigation is ongoing and the suspects will face court proceedings.

A crime that began inside a shared apartment has now become an international story.
Authorities in Ghana have arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the alleged murder of another Nigerian, whose body was discovered in a pool of blood at his residence in Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale in northern Ghana. The arrests have drawn attention on both sides of the border and renewed discussions about crime, justice and the responsibility of citizens living abroad.
According to the Northern Regional Police Command, the victim, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, aged 36, was found dead in his bedroom after officers responded to a distress report. Investigators said he had suffered a deep wound to the forehead, while a towel had allegedly been forced into his mouth. The room was also reported to have been ransacked.
Arrested While Allegedly Trying to Escape
Police identified the suspects as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa.
Investigators say the pair were arrested during an intelligence-led operation while allegedly attempting to cross into neighbouring Togo through the Tatale route. Officers believe they were trying to leave Ghana shortly after the killing.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear before a court as investigations continue.
What Police Say Happened
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, the two suspects and another Nigerian national.
At the scene, police recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used during the attack, along with several other items that have been sent for forensic examination. The victim's body was taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death before it was transferred to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Investigators later searched the suspects after their arrest and recovered mobile phones, laptops, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches and personal documents believed to have been taken from the victim's room. These items have been retained as evidence.
Alleged Motive Still Under Investigation
According to Ghanaian police, the suspects allegedly told investigators that they conspired to kill the victim following a dispute over money they claimed came from internet fraud.
Police have stressed that this account comes from the suspects themselves and remains part of an ongoing investigation. It has not been proven in court, and investigators are continuing to examine the evidence before drawing final conclusions.
As with any criminal case, the suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of law.
A Tragedy Beyond the Headlines
The case has generated strong reactions because it involves three citizens of the same country living abroad.
For many Nigerians in Ghana and across the diaspora, the incident is a painful reminder that disputes—whatever their origin—can end in devastating consequences when violence replaces dialogue.
It also highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies investigating serious crimes involving foreign nationals, where cooperation between countries often becomes essential.
Justice Must Take Its Course
The swift arrest of the suspects has been credited to intelligence-led policing by Ghanaian authorities.
However, the arrests mark only the beginning of the legal process.
The prosecution will now be expected to present evidence before the court.
The defence will have the opportunity to challenge that evidence.
Ultimately, it will be for the courts—not public opinion—to determine criminal responsibility.
Protecting the Reputation of Nigerians Abroad
Millions of Nigerians live, work and study outside the country, making valuable contributions to their host communities.
Cases such as this, while involving only a few individuals, often attract widespread attention and can affect public perceptions of the wider Nigerian community.
Community leaders have frequently urged Nigerians abroad to respect the laws of their host countries and resolve disagreements peacefully.
A Family Awaits Answers
Behind the police statements and court proceedings is a grieving family mourning the loss of a loved one.
For them, the most important question is no longer who has been arrested.
It is whether justice will be served.
As the investigation continues and the case moves through the Ghanaian courts, authorities say they are determined to establish exactly what happened inside that Tamale apartment and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable under the law.
